Salma Hayek Accepts Knight In France

Salma Hayek Knight – According to People, actress Salma Hayek has been appointed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to become a honorary knight in the French Legion of Honor.

Within the next two months she is expected to be ‘knighted’ in a special ceremony in Paris.

The Legion of Honor was introduced by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and it is the highest decoration one could receive in France. The Order has a five tiered system which includes Chevalier, Officier, Commandeur, Grand Officier and Grand Croix. Hayek will be entered as a Chevalier.

Hayek was born in Mexico and became a naturalized US citizen. Now she is married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault and will be joined in the ceremony by her father-in-law, Francois Pinault who has received the honor of Grand Officer in the Legion of Honor.

Salma has done considerable humanitarian work mostly with UNICEF and has earned a nomination for VH1’s ‘Do Something Award’ for her work.

She has received one nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Frida Kahlo in the film Frida in 2002. In 2011 she was ranked 17th on Entertainment Weekly’s list of ‘The Smartest Women in Television.’

Hayek will join the Legion with such people as Julia Child, Jacques Cousteau, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood and Helen Keller among many others who have received the same honor.
