Sharon Tate’s engagement ring, given to her by Roman Polanski, sells for $21,000 at a public action. It is the same ring Sharon Tate wore when she was murdered by the Manson family. In fact, it was removed at the coroner’s office just hours after the homicide.
However, Sharon’s sisters insisted that it was not her actual engagement ring, but an “unofficial symbol of her relationship” with Polanski.
However, the auction house was able to produce a signed letter written by Polanski confirming that it was the actual engagement ring he gave to her when he proposed.
The couple met while filming “The Fearless Vampire Killers,” and started dating during the production. On January 20, 1968, the couple were married in London.
In his autobiography, Polanski described his brief time with Tate as the best years of his life.
Tate was pregnant when she was killed a year and a half after they were married in August 1969.
The auction was held by website GottaHaveRockandRoll.com and the starting bid was $10,000.
The person who purchased the ring was not identified.
