Actress Soleil Moon Frye, who played “Punky Brewster” in the 80’s show, talks about life as a child star and the romance with Mark Wahlberg.
Now at 35 years-old Frye is a mother of two children herself. Recently, she had talked about how she was once babysat by Michael Jackson and shared a hot tub with him.
Jackson invited Frye “to take a Jacuzzi” with him as the two spent time “talking about life, love and the secrets of the world” while in the tub. However, like many of Jackson’s child-friends who have since grown, she recalls a kind and insightful man that treated her with respect and regard.
“I remember him talking about the fact that he related more to kids than adults and that grown-ups never completely understood him. He sat across from me, and we had a dialogue, as if we were peers – a true heart-to-heart. He never made me feel like this was a bizarre situation. It just seemed as if he really wanted someone to talk to, someone who would make no judgments about him.”
Soleil also talked about her relationship with Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg.
“He was more of a friend than anything. I had a mad, crazy crush on him, the biggest crush of my life! He was great and such a nice guy. Yes, it was totally crazy love. Who wasn’t crazy about him? I just saw him this morning doing a satellite media tour, and I was doing mine, and I was like, ‘Oh, that Boston boy.'”
In an interview with CNN, Frye also talked about being a child star on the set of the “Punky Brewster” show.
“We were always kids first and foremost, so for us the set was literally our playground. We’d take our pogo sticks and hop off of furniture and ride our scooters through the sound stages and just the smell, and the nostalgia of that whole time is so close to my heart,” Soleil said.
Frye’s mother ensured her a normal childhood as much as possible. Soleil ended up marrying Jason Goldberg, a television producer and actor, on October 25, 1998 in Los Angeles.
