Stephen Fry Gets Married In Private Wedding Ceremony [Video]

Stephen Fry started his marriage to Elliott Spencer on Saturday at a register office in the Norfolk town of Dereham, England. The New York Daily News reports that the 57-year-old “The Hobbit” actor confirmed he was engaged to his 27-year-old boyfriend. “Fry had taken to Twitter earlier this month to reveal his wedding plans with Spencer as a response to recent tabloid reports about his love life.”

“Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!” he tweeted.

The marriage itself has been an obsession by the media because of the different in age between Fry and Spender. But the truth is that even straight couples marry when there’s a big difference in age. “When it comes to love, age is just a number,” one critic wrote.

The couple officially applied for a marriage license on Christmas Eve. From that day forward, they kept the wedding date a secret, and within an small English community where Fry was raised. There were no photos taken of the ceremony.

Fry is has become an antigay activist in recent years to promote gay marriage. He has also been vocal about the antigay laws in Russia that were placed there by President Vladimir Putin.

Fry is famously known for his roles in “The Hobbit” and “V for Vendetta.” He’s a television personality, comedian, writer and actor. Fry also played the lead in the biopic Wilde.

Elliott is a comedian and writer who met Stephen last year. While they have been seen together on a few occasions, they denied reports that they were dating. The were seen a few times at London’s Savoy Hotel and at Ascot racecourse in Berkshire.

It was previously announced by NewsOXY that Fry would join The Hobbit franchise to play the Master of Laketown on its new films. Director Peter Jackson was thrilled to have the actor onboard the project. “We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown,” Jackson said.

“I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we’ve developing a Dambuteres movie together. In addition to his writing skills, he’s a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us.”
