Tobey Maguire Poker Lawsuit – Tobey Maguire wants to give back a huge pile of money he won during high-stakes poker games with a ponzi schemer to settle a lawsuit
The “Spider-Man” actor has agreed to pay $80,000 to settle. It was originally sought for more than $300,000 in winnings paid out by convicted con man Brad Ruderman. The actor signed the “compromise” settlement last Tuesday.
If approved by a judge, Tobey will pay the amount to a bankruptcy trustee who is trying to recoup money, paid out by Ruderman during celebrity-studded Texas Hold ‘Em poker games, for the duped investors.
The trustee said Maguire was getting a good deal by settling early.
“I disagree with Maguire in regard to the amount of the transfers that likely constitute funds of (Ruderman). However, I have agreed to the reduced settlement amount in the Maguire agreement of $80,000 based on the risks and costs associated with litigation,” trustee Howard Ehrenberg said in a statement to the court.
Ehrenberg said Toby Maguire’s “fair and equitable” deal was similar to the terms reached with 14 of 22 other card players who have been sued to recoup poker-related funds.
“He did not end up with any better settlement than the others,” Ehrenberg told the Associated Press, adding that together the settlements total $1.7 million.
