Van Halen – Rock band Van Halen is planning a tour for 2102, but as a sneak peak to the tour, they are inviting critics and writers to a performance in a New York cafe.
The mini concert will take place on Thursday night at Greenwich Villages Cafe Wha? and last for about 45 minutes. The 2012 tour will mark the first time the band has performed publicly since 2008 during their reunion tour with David Lee Roth.
The upcoming tour will also coincide with the release of their new album due to be released in February with the first single to be released sometime in January along with a video.
The band chose the cafe due to sentimental value, Roth’s uncle once owned the club. Famous acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Bill Cosby, Bob Dylan and Richard Pryor have also performed on the stage at Cafe Wha? in the past.
Van Halen formed out of Pasadena in 1972 and released its self titled debut album in 1978. By 2007 the band had sold more than 80 million records worldwide and has had the most #1 hits on Billboards “Rock” charts.
Through the years of the bands existence there has been a back and fourth switch between lead singers Roth and Sammy Hagar with a brief stint in the middle by Gary Cherone. Eddie Van Halen has also played lead vocals on some tracks.
The upcoming tour and album will once again see David Lee Roth as the lead singer.
