Whoopi Goldberg Mom Dies After Stroke. Whoopi Goldberg announced that her mother Emma Johnson had passed away last week. Her death was a result of a stroke.

Goldberg was working in London, England performing in a stage adaptation of her 1992 movie Sister Act when the stroke occurred. As soon as Whoopi heard about her mother, she left England to be with her during her time of need. According to the talk show host, she will remain strong thanks to the support she has from her brother.

“My mother was a great adventure person, so she loved to go on adventures and my brother and I made sure that her life was full and rich,” Whoopi Goldberg said in a statement. “My brother and I were very, very lucky to have her in our lives,” Goldberg added.

“And so, I’m not sad because she had a great time… I think I’m just sad sometimes because I think, ‘Who will love me the way that she did?’ But I realized that my brother and I have each other so we’re OK.”
