Willie Nelson Pays Pot Fine

Willie Nelson has struck a plea deal to settle his marijuana possession charges in Texas. Nelson must pay a $500 fine and $287 for court costs. He agreed to plead no content to the misdemeanor charge.

In March, Bramblett had suggested that County Judge Becky Dean-Walker had ordered Nelson to perform “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” in court. At the time, Dean-Walker said Bramblett’s suggestion was a “joke that got out of hand.”

On Wednesday, Bramblett confirmed that “he’s not coming, he’s not singing.”

Nelson was arrested Nov. 26 at a Border Patrol checkpoint when an agent searched his tour bus because of a suspicious aroma coming from the vehicle. He was later released on bail. If he stays out of trouble for 30 days, the judge will dismiss the case entirely.

Nelson’s lawyer, Joe Turner, said, “Willie is glad to have it all behind him. Everyone was very fair.”
