Willie Nelson doesn’t go anywhere without his toy armadillo and that’s what prompted a search by the Capitol Theater’s general manager Tom Bailey after it was stolen from the stage after a concert last Thursday.
Bailey says a grainy video shows a woman walking onto the stage as the crew packs up, boldly grabbing the armadillo and sauntering off with it. He says the critter is known as Ol’ Dillo and is a treasured possession of band’s monitor engineer, Aaron Foye.
Bailey says theater workers looked through more video on Tuesday in hopes of identifying the woman.
A posting on Nelson’s Facebook page asks for help finding the thief. And a commenter says, “We hang armadillo thieves in Texas.”
However, Bailey says the toy has been returned and the band isn’t pressing charges.
Bailey says theater staffers believe they know who stole the armadillo, but he says Nelson’s road manager said Foye is only happy that the armadillo has been returned.
Nelson’s publicist Elaine Schock told The Journal News she was unaware of Ol’ Dillo and did not know it had been stolen.
“When you go to a Willie Nelson show the last thing you notice is an armadillo,” she said.
