Firefighters Free Trapped Kitten –
A kitten trapped several feet down in a plastic electrical pipe in El Cajon was freed today after an hours-long rescue effort, firefighters reported.
The black-and-white cat appeared to be OK after it was pulled free with a makeshift catch-pole. It was taken to a local shelter for medical attention.
Monica Zech, a spokeswoman for the city of El Cajon, said the kitten was first heard meowing at about 4 a.m. today at the southeast corner of Washington and Avocado avenues. A crew from Emergency Animal Rescue arrived and began trying to free it. Police officers and firefighters joined the effort.
The kitten was freed at about 11:45 a.m.
