Graduate College With Zero Debt

Graduate College With Zero Debt - It’s difficult for any student to not think about debt or loans while in school. The truth is, they are deeper in student loans than they are in credit card debt. Some of them didn’t need to borrow money to go to college. However, the problem is there for most who graduate before they can land their first job.

Is it possible to graduate college with zero debt? You shouldn’t borrow money, says author and college student Zac Bissonnette.

“The repercussions on your life are actually quite dramatic. You should not sign up for (loans) until you’ve done everything you can to avoid them,” says Bissonnette, 22, who wrote “Debt-Free U: How I Paid For an Outstanding College Education Without Loans, Scholarships or Mooching Off My Parents.”

He’ll graduate debt-free in spring 2011 from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (art history). Bissonnette paid for it with money he earned during his “workaholic” high-school years. However, not everyone is that high-achieving. There are others who will leave school without owing anything.

These young people are not privileged. They graduated (or will graduate) debt-free because they made it their business to do so. Many do it because they want to feel as if they own their education.

Some states have a loan program that will forgive the debt if the student graduates within four years. Texas is one of those states. It’s a lot of work though, and it does mean summer classes.
