The beauty of the old folk songs is that they stay pretty much the same. The pop music scene is always on the move. The American Music Awards appeared to be something like a re-run of "American Idol," Sunday. Two former contestants on the hit talent show, Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood, won three prizes each. Pop divas Mary J. Blige, Rhianna, Fergie and Beyonce also took home awards.

Carrie Underwood, who won the fourth season of "American Idol," hit No. 1 last month, with her second album, " Carnival Ride." Earlier this year, she won the best new artist award at the Grammies.

She was honoured at the American Music Awards as the favorite female artist. " Carnival Ride," was voted the favorite album in the country music category and was given a special award based on , "text-in" voting by viewers during the show.

Daughtry's eponymous rock band won all three categories in which it was nominated, the breakthrough artist, favourite adult contemporary artist, and favourite pop/rock album. Daughtry was a finalist on the fifth season in 2006. His new band topped the U.S. charts this year with its self-titled album.
