Google will soon debut a free voice recognition application for Apple iPhone users. The mobile application lets iPhone users run search queries by speaking commands. The Internet search giant received a US patent in 2006 for voice recognition search queries.

Google Inc is updating its Apple Inc iPhone application to weigh in on the Internet voice recognition arena. The free mobile application lets iPhone users run search queries by speaking commands.

Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc already have similar applications that let people surf the Web with spoken queries by using smart phones. However, Google claims its voice recognition application is better because it can analyze huge amounts of data to return local and accurate results.

For instance, a mobile user can ask for the best Italian restaurant in Orlando, Florida and get local results. The mobile application can be used by just lifting the phone and speaking voice recognition commands.

Google received a US patent for such a system in 2006. The patent explains the application as software that provides search results from a voice search query.

The Internet search company already offers a toll-free GOOG411 service in the United States. The service allows people to call and speak to a computer system which returns contact information.

Google is reportedly leaving an open door to a similar voice recognition application for its Android platform. Android is a free open-source mobile platform where developers can build their own applications and submit them for approval. Mobile users receive the applications for free from Google's app store.
