Pill to live past 100 may now become a reality. Live past 100 years by taking a simple pill. A New York professor claims he has identified a genetic variant.
The genetic variant discovered marks out people who survive to an old age. In fact, new drugs have gone to age-related ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s. These medicines are billed as remedies for specific illnesses to meet the requirements of drug regulators.
Health and Aging
However, these drugs tackle multiple causes of unhealthy aging, according to Professor Nir Barzilai, one of the world’s leading age scientists. Barzilai’s own work at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York has identified genetic variants that mark out people who survive to a “ripe old age.” The new drugs build on these discoveries, which involve biological pathways affecting metabolism, cell-death, inflammation and cholesterol.
Anti-age Drug Testing In 2012
“Pharmaceutical companies are developing these drugs now,” Professor Barzilai said in a statement. “They will probably be available for testing from 2012.” Drug companies are looking at sirtuins, a family of enzymes associated with a whole range of age-related diseases.
