A pregnancy test showed one man that he had testicular cancer.
What started out to be a joke turned serious after an in-home pregnancy test detects a man’s testicular cancer.
A story posted on Reddit.com by an unidentified user, started out to be humorous telling of what happened when their male friend took the pregnancy test. They explain how he had been rummaging through his medicine cabinet when he came across the in-home test left behind by an ex-girlfriend.
The poster explains in the story that, for some reason, the friend decided to take the pregnancy test and much to his amusement it came up positive.
After over a thousand readers commented that the man needed to go to the doctor because they heard a positive test on a pregnancy test was an indicator of testicular cancer.
“You may have testicular cancer! Get to an oncologist, tell them you took a pregnancy test and it came out positive,” one Redditor wrote.
The theory seems to be backed up by National Institutes of Health which says, the Pregnancy tests detect the amount of the hormone beta human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in an individual’s urine. While the hormone is produced by the developing placenta during pregnancy, it can also be associated with testicular cancer.
A follow up post by the original poster, said that, in fact, due to the recommendations of many users the man decided to see a doctor, and indeed, it was found he had a small testicular tumor. According to the user, the tumor is easily treatable since it was found early.
