2011 National Dog Show – 2011 Results are in for the National Dog Show. It was an interesting competition, one that most people predicted the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier to win it all, and it carried some surprising results.
The Beagle was looked at to win the Best in Show, but the actual winner ended up being the Wire Fox Terrier: GCH CH Steele Your Heart. Since the names are always quite long, close friends call this cute dog, “Eire,” although the pronunciation is actually “Ira.” As I watched the replay clips, this little dog looked so disinterested to me, that it was really appealing that this little dog actually took the big win.
I learned that the Wire Fox Terrier shared a category with the Smooth Fox Terrier until 1984. The only difference in these two breeds is their coats; otherwise these dogs are almost identical. Both types of these dogs are very playful and friendly, a sure sign that they are a terrier, but the Wire Fox is highly trainable and they tend to be great with children.
The other finalists from the other dog groups are as follows:
The Toy Group was the Affenpinscher: Â Â GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari
The Hound Group was the Whippet: Â Â GCH CH Starline’s Chanel
The Herding Group was the Australian Shepherd: Â Â GCH CH Propwash Reckon
The Non-Sporting Group was the Dalmatian: Â Â GCH CH Spotlight’s Ruffian
The Sporting Group was the English Springer Spaniel: Â Â GCH CH Cerise Tender Is The Night
The Working Group was the Bernese Mountain Dog: Â Â GCH CH Blumoon’s Tanzenite v Blackrock
Congratulations to all of the contestants! It is a long hard road for all of the lovely dogs and their owners to get to one of these shows. It must be exhausting going through all of the trials and tribulations that the dogs encounter. They work very hard to get to this spot.
