New ‘Marcel the Shell’ Video Released, since the debut of his ridiculously adorable viral video in 2010, Marcel the Shell has achieved two of his biggest goals in life: He’s published a beautifully illustrated biography, and now it looks like he owns a dog (although it terrifies him).

Finally, we have a sequel from creators Dean Fleischer-Camp and Saturday Night Live alum Jenny Slate, who provides the quirky voice. In it, we get some burning questions answered about our favorite shod shell:

–What does he use as a bed?
–What does he use as a car?
–Does he have any siblings?

Sure, the production values have gotten fancier since Marcel’s book and television deals, but the heart is still there, and the movie ends on an oddly touching note. Plus, there’s such attention to detail.

Here’s the video:

The credit goes to Dean Fleischer-Camp and his fiance Jenny Slate, a writer, comedian and actress who did one season on Saturday Night Live in 2009-2010.

Jenny says she started doing this voice around the house and it organically turned into a character called Marcel.

“We were just playing around,” Jenny said. “It was so fun and playful and maybe that’s why, I don’t know, it is what it is.”

What it is, is this sweet little piece of art that I want everyone to see. I almost need people to like it and I’d be sad if someone didn’t. It’s like my favorite band, who I so rarely tell people about because I’m afraid if they don’t like the music…I will no longer like them. I asked Jenny why she thinks so many people feel a connection to Marcel.

I was also intrigued by the idea that Jenny made this short with her fiance. It really struck me how they seemed to inspire each other and motivate each other creatively.

Marcel is now available in the form of a brand new children’s book and a second animation short is being screened now and will appear on the Internet when the book tour ends.
