New Zodiac Sign Named Ophiuchus As Astrology Charts Change

For those interested in the stars, your Zodiac sign may have changed because of a new 13th Ophiuchus sign. This means that newspapers, online astrology websites, and even the social media networks are changing to the new chart.

Astronomer Parke Kunkle the Earth’s alignment and a shift in dates have changed the charts and now there may be a 13th Zodiac sign recognized as Ophiuchus. Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move, the signs gradually change, as expected.

On a scientific standpoint, the planets and our own galaxy are moving outward, which is why the moon moves farther away from the Earth by 3 inches each year.

The change didn’t happen overnight, and even when astrology began almost 3,000 yard ago, people already knew that the 12 signs were designated from to different periods of the year. Since then, the Earth’s position in relation to the sun has changed, and that will also impact new changes to the charts.

This means that the sign you were born with is now different, but it shouldn’t affect horoscope readings.

The Associated Press quoted Kunkle:

“This is not new news,” and “Astronomers have known about this since about 130 B.C.”

There are those that think different about the new Ophiuchus sign.

Astrologer Susan Miller told ABC News that the claim of new Zodiac signs “ridiculous,” adding “We’ve known about this for ages.”

The confusion seems to be a result of Eastern vs. Western astrology. Most of us are familiar with tropical zodiac (Western), based on the seasons, which has not changed, though sidereal zodiac (Eastern), based on constellations, has different signs including a 13th.

It’s an interesting topic and a debate that will continue over Ophiuchus and how it can impact the signs.

In the meantime, here’s a list of the new proposed Zodiac dates.
