A couple arguing in their home ended up stabbing one another over the American Idol.
Karen Elaine Harrelson, 48, and Gregory L. Stambaugh, 57, told York County police they couldn’t agree on which contestant would win the contest on the night of May 15, leading to their violent fight.
They also couldn’t agree on who stabbed who first.
They are charged with one count of felony aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault after allegedly stabbing one another.
When police arrived at Harrelson’s West Manchester Township home they found the couple waiting on the front porch with blood all over their clothing.
Harrelson told investigators she went upstairs from the basement where they were watching the show to cut a piece of cake when her boyfriend, Stambaugh, followed her up.
Harrelson said Stambaugh grabbed a second knife from the kitchen and slashed her wrist before hitting her over the head and throwing her down on the floor.
His injuries, seen on his left forearm, were done by her in self-defense she said, according to the criminal complaint.
Stambaugh’s recount was entirely different.
The 57-year-old said he was in the basement when she returned from the kitchen brandishing the knife and proceeded to stab him in the arm.
He said he ran after her, back into the kitchen, and in his attempt to wrestle away the knife believes she only then may have been mistakenly stabbed.
Both admitted to drinking throughout the day with each also arguing on how much.
Harrelson told police she had four beers that night.
Stambaugh accused Harrelson of drinking beer and tequila since 5am that morning.
He said he had a single beer and a pint of scotch after joining her around noon.
The couple were treated for their injuries and sent to York County Prison.
They’re charged with one count of felony aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault.
Stambaugh’s bail was set at $70,000, while Harrelson’s was set at $30,000.
