Grumpy and not having a good time at The Maine Mall, Santa gets fired after several complaints from children and their parents about their misery during the holidays.
Some of the complaints ranged from the Santa being rude, grumpy and not allowing some kids sit on his lap.
One 6-year-old child named Chantel said when she visited the grumpy Santa at The Maine Mall in South Portland, she asked him for an American Girl Doll for Christmas, but the Santa snapped back that she would get an “American football” instead.
Chantel’s mother, Jessica Mailhiot, told local news station WGME, she posted the story of their encounter on Facebook, which caused other parents to share their dissatisfying stories of visiting the mall Santa.
Mailhiot also revealed that after she turned down the $20 photo of her daughter visiting with Santa, because she could not afford it, the grumpy Saint Nick refused to let her sit on his lap.
“He just put his hand on his lap so I couldn’t go on,” she told WGME.
“This was just really important to see that Santa was listening and maybe the one thing she wanted, she would get,” Mailhiot said. “He didn’t even ask if she was good or anything like that, he just snubbed her.”
Officials from the mall have confirmed that they hope to have the new Santa installed and ready to meet children before this weekend after responding on Facebook to the complaints.
“Thank you to those who have voiced concerns regarding our Santa photography policy. Visiting Santa at The Maine Mall is free – photo purchases are NOT required, and we have been reacting to customer complaints by taking some pretty serious steps already, the results of which you will see within the upcoming days. We realize time with Santa Claus is a holiday tradition many of our shoppers look forward to year after year – and so do we,” the mall officials posted.
