A pair of lungs, which belonged to an animal, were found on a sidewalk in Los Angeles, which had investigators baffled and citizens puzzled.
When the lungs were first reported authorities turned them over to the county’s coroner to decide whether they came from an animal or a human.
Sgt. Robert Dean from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated, “an unidentified citizen reported finding the organs Sunday night on Avalon Boulevard.”
The organs were discovered on Sunday by a woman who was walking along the 13100 block of Avalon Boulevard; she called the strange citing in to authorities at 8:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. ET).
On Tuesday, the coroner concluded that the mysterious set of lungs found in Compton were from an animal.
“We’ve had them examined and they are not human. They are of animal origin, definitely not human,” coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter stated.
Now, Compton’s citizens can rest a bit easier knowing that there is not a crazed lung snatcher on the loose.
Officials have conducted blood test and taken lung tissue samples in order to determine the animal’s origin. However, Winter was unsure at this point what type of animal the lungs belonged to.
