A Tampa man who killed his mother’s puppy and ate it for food has been charged with animal cruelty. Thomas Elliot Huggins, allegedly strangled the 6-month-old pit bull mutt, named Bandit. He butchered it and began boiling its ribs.
Huggins then stored the rest of it in a freezer for future meals.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the ribs cooking on the stove and the puppy’s head in a trash can. Authorities were alerted after a family member reported him, according to NBC Miami.
Huggins’ sister told authorities that her brother “has not been right” for years, and “goes on and on about religion and the lord telling him to do things.”
The 25-year-old allegedly admitted to police that he “choked the dog with his bare hands” when it “began to be aggressive towards him.” He explained that he cut the dog up with a steak knife, put the ribs in a pot and cooked it. He then said that he ate some of the meat.
He is currently in Hillsborough County jail with a bond of $10,000.
