A mother who had just given birth went ballistic in the maternity ward of a central Pennsylvania hospital by smoking the powerful synthetic stimulant known as bath salts two days after she gave birth.

Police say they had to subdue Carla Murphy after she stripped naked in the shower and began rolling around on the floor. Officers say the 31-year old became violent when staff members at Altoona Regional Hospital tried to get her dressed and back in bed. In a search of Murphy’s home, officers say they found more drugs.

Murphy was taken to Blair County Prison due to a probation violation for an outstanding warrant for her arrest. As for the baby, a case worker went to the home to inspect it to see if everything was a-okay, with Murphy’s boyfriend allowing them to look around. According to the Altoona Mirror, they found “an array of drug paraphernalia, including needles, aluminum foil, Blizzard containers and a broken glass bottle with brown residue on it.” They didn’t do a very good job at even trying to hide their drug use!

The two are both facing charges, with Murphy facing “charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and harassment as well as several drug counts, including felony possession of a designer drug.”

Murphy is charged with aggravated assault and various drug counts.

She faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 8.
