Swimmer Proposes – US competitive swimmer, Matt Grevers decided to take a golden opportunity to propose to his girlfriend and USA swim teammate Annie Chandler.

The proposal occurred on Saturday at the Missouri Grand Prix, after Grevers won the 100-meter backstroke event. While on the top spot of the medal stand he asked Annie to join him, where he pulled the diamond ring out and get on one knee. He then proposed to Chandler, who while stunned along with the rest of the crowd said, “Yes.”

Grevers afterwards told the AP, “I’ve just been searching for a unique way to pop the question. My whole family is here and I figured it would be a perfect opportunity and a unique situation.”

Grevers had planned on making the move if he had won the event asking his brother, Andy, to hold the ring until he got out of the pool and then quietly pass it to him.

“I took [the ring] out a little fast because my heart was racing the whole time,” Grevers said.

His original plan was to propose to Chandler on the podium after her 100-meter breast-sroke final but she failed to medal in the event.

“She didn’t have the best swim. So I was like, ‘I got to go do it,’” said Grevers.

Grevers was awarded two Gold medals at the 2008 Olympics for his part in competing in heat relay races in team events, but did not compete in the finals. He won the individual Silver medal at the same games for the 100-meter backstroke. Both Chandler and Grevers will be apart of the 2012 Olympic team.
