An annual eating contest called ‘Wing Bowl XX’ saw a record breaking performance by Takeru Kobayashi, eating a record amount of buffalo chicken wings.

In what was his first entry into the chicken wing competition at the event, he downed 337 wings in a half hour time limit. Shattering the previous record of 255 in a half hour.

The 3 time defending champion, Jonathan “Super” Squibb, also surpassed his own old record to try to keep his title with 271 wings, but didn’t even come close to the champ.

Kobayashi is a 6 time Nathan’s Hot Dog eating champion but has been banned by Nathan’s over a contract dispute. Last year at the Wing Bowl he downed an entire cheesesteak at the Philadelphia eating extravaganza in 24 seconds.

The first Wing Bowl in 1993 was attended by 10 people which was a local radio morning show eating stunt. The latest event was attended by 20,000 and is still hosted by the founding radio morning show broadcast on 94-WIP-FM which was originally an AM station.

Current Nathan’s Hot Dog Champion Joey Chestnut is also a former 3 time Wing Bowl Champion, he was not a competitor in this years event.

Kobayashi will take home a $20,000 cash prize for the win.
