Oprah Winfrey will crown her position as one of America's most powerful media moguls by starting her own television network after deciding to leave her top-rated US talk show.

She's expected to deliver a new program to a cable outlet she's starting. Her exit is a blow to two networks. In another blow to the struggling business of network television, Oprah Winfrey is expected to announce on her program today that she will step down from her syndicated afternoon talk show, which over the last two decades has transformed her into one of the richest and most influential forces in popular culture.

Oprah will end show after 25 seasons

After 25 years of Hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah will say goodbye. She became a national name in 1986, reshaping the talk show format. In the process, she became one of the most wealthy and powerful entertainers in the world. She did so, partly, by sharing some of her most intimate struggles with millions of viewers. Her show was rated number one for 23 consecutive seasons. Oprah has been busy with plans to launch her own cable network - - a joint venture.
