Alvin Greene indicted on disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity charge. It is a misdemeanor charge of communicating obscene materials to a person without consent. Green could could face up to three years in prison for the misdemeanor or up to five years for the felony.

South Carolina Democrat Alvin Greene said he will not bow out of the race despite being indicted on a felony charge of obscenity. A grand jury indicted the Democratic hopeful on the felony and a misdemeanor charge of communicating obscene materials to a person without consent. Greene insisted he would continue to fight to win the Senate seat.

Greene won the June 8 South Carolina Democratic primary over opponent Vic Rawl despite not making a single speech or having campaign or fundraising teams. His surprise win is questioned to this day. He is unemployed yet still paid the $10,000 filing fee required for a Senate run.

The candidate had been involuntarily discharged from the U.S. Army for undisclosed reasons and was facing the pornography charges. South Carolina Democrats last month voted to dismiss a motion to strip Greene of his Senate nomination. Greene’s mental state was also called into question by State Rep. Todd Rutherford.
