Michelle Bachmann Suspends Campaign – After a very poor showing in the Iowa caucuses on Tuesday reports are that Michelle Bachman will suspend her campaign effectively ending her run at the Republican presidential nomination. The disappointment in the Iowa caucus despite becoming the first woman to win the Ames Straw Poll held in Iowa back in August of last year.
Bachman only received 5% of the vote and finished 6th out of the 9 candidates one of which was Herman Cain who suspended his campaign last month.
A source tells John King of CNN that, “She will acknowledge the reality of Iowa’s vote.” A second source was noted as saying, “she deserves the chance to say this in her own words but it is safe to say we don’t see a viable way forward.”
The withdrawal will come as a big blow to conservative Tea Party movement in their fight against Obama’s agenda.
The Iowa caucuses saw a three way battle at the top by Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul. Romney and Santorum where only separated by 8 total votes both receiving almost 25% of the votes each, with Ron Paul giving a strong showing with just over 21%.
Prior to running for the Republican nomination, Bachmann served in the Minnesota State Senate and is the first Republican woman to represent Minnesota in Congress.
