Last May MLB Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter, was diagnosed with four brain tumor’s and had started receiving treatment. The primary tumor’s was a grade IV glioblastoma multiforme, an extremely aggressive cancer.
Carter’s daughter, Kimmy Bloemers has been keeping an online journal of her fathers condition. Her entry on Thursday was not good news for the former Expos and Mets player.
Bloemers revealed that in Carter’s latest test results, an MRI showed that there is more tumors that have appeared.
“I wish I could say that the results were good. … There are now several new spots/tumors on my dad’s brain. I write these words with tears because I am so sad for my dad,” Kimmy writes.
She went on to write, “Dr. Jimmy Harris will be coming to my parent’s house this evening to talk to the family about the next step.”
Kimmy had also revealed that Carter has had 2 falls recently, once on Christmas Eve, and then on at a recent doctor’s office visit, in which he has torn his rotator cuff. She says he is in pain from the tear and needs surgery for it, but can only do rehab for it.
Carter spent 19 year in the league mostly with the Expos or Mets with short stints with the Dodgers and Giants at the end of his career. He has won 3 Gold Gloves and 5 Silver Slugger awards.
