Justin Verlander is very upset and has fired back at Jack Clark on Friday, denying the former major leaguer’s steroid accusations. Clark went on sports radio and accused Verlander and Albert Pujols of steroid use.

Naturally, the Tiger’s ace is upset with the comments and called Clark’s accusations “moronic” and said, “he doesn’t even know me.”

Clark didn’t offer any evidence or facts about the steroid use, instead, he cited Verlander’s ability to throw near 100 miles per hour throughout the course of a game in recent years and mentioned he now only throws in the low 90s.

“Verlander was like Nolan Ryan, he threw 97, 98, 100 miles an hour from the first inning to the ninth inning,” Clark said on the air, per the Post-Dispatch. “He got that big contract, now he can barely reach 92, 93. What happened to it? He has no arm problems, nothing’s wrong. It’s just the signs are there.”

Some MLB experts disagree because Verlander can still hit 100 on the radar gun, which renders Clark’s claims baseless.

Verlander also hinted at legal action, saying his attorney could get involved.

“There is no merit in what he is talking about. He’s not watching me pitch. Because if did he would’ve seen my last start, right? He’s saying I’m struggling to hit 93, 94? I averaged 97 and hit a 100 in my last start. So clearly he does’t know what he’s talking about.”

However, baseless accusations aside, Verlander hasn’t been himself this season. His ERA is up to 3.74. For reference, Verlander hasn’t finished a season with an ERA over 3.00 since 2010.
