Kris Humphries Devastated To Learn – Unemployed New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries is completely devastated to learn of Kim Kardashian’s divorce filing. Could the whole wedding thing be a sham for a reality show?
“I love my wife and am devastated,” he said in a statement.
While Kardashian, who said in her own statement that she “had hoped this marriage was forever,” jetted out of the country Monday night for a promotional appearance in Australia, her husband is left to fend off the glare of the spotlight on his own.
But that doesn’t mean he’s sitting at home watching his own over-the-top E! wedding special on loop.
In typical Kardashian clan fashion, he too has a promotional gig coming up this weekend at Chateau Nightclub in Las Vegas, the club’s reservationist Kaitlyn Henry confirms. The Saturday night appearance will no doubt mean big bucks, and perhaps even some sympathetic attention for him about the divorce.
As far as his actual day job goes, that future is more uncertain.
Kris is still waiting out the NBA lockout, which began July 1. Once the labor stoppage is resolved, the towering power forward, who made $3.2 million playing for the New Jersey Nets last season, will be a free agent and can sign a new contract with any team in the league.
And there will be a market for his services, considering that he had his best year as a professional last season, playing in a career-high 74 games.
The lockout has not yet had an effect on Humphries’ financial status. But it may soon. NBA players are generally paid bi-weekly Nov. 15-May 1, and most players will feel the pain of a missed paycheck in two weeks. The players should learn more about the season this week when the league is expected to make a statement.
But between the elaborate wedding planning, honeymooning and standing by his wife’s side on numerous red carpets, he’s still trying to maintain his day job.
Humphries recently told SportsIllustrated.com that he has continued to train on the court and is working with a strength and conditioning coach.
Ultimately, though he still has a mangled relationship, impending divorce and perhaps even a broken heart to deal with from being devastated. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make this work,” Kris admitted in the other half of his brief statement he first learned of Kim’s intentions.
