NBA player and reality star Lamar Odom has parted ways with the Dallas Mavericks after a bad season. The ball player has been depressed ever since he was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers. The move also had an impact on his marriage to Khloe Kardashian.
“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom said in a statement to ESPN.com.
Lamar has struggled since becoming a Maverick, and was recently benched for a whole game as part of a coach’s decision, which was the first time that Odom could remember ever being benched by a coach.
In the deal, the Mavericks will list Odom as inactive and will be able to trade him after the season is over. A source tells ESPN that Odom agreed to the deal so that he can clear his head and prepare for the next season.
Odom has also been a part of the Kardashian reality shows, starring with his wife in ‘Khloe and Lamar’, which chronicles their marriage together.
The 32-year-old forward is owed $8.2 million for the 2012-13 season but if a team has him on their roster by June 29th, they can buy him out for $2.4 million and Odom would be ineligible to play in the playoffs this season if another team acquired him before the end of the season.
Odom himself had his agent demand a trade after the Lakers initially had tried to trade him to the New Orleans Hornets without his knowledge. The deal to the Hornets was eventually rejected by the NBA commissioner.
