Notre Dame fans might not even recognize the uniforms for the Fighting Irish as they play Miami at Soldier Field in Chicago, and it’s difficult to understand why they went for a drastic neutral-site change.
The jerseys have metallic numbers that say IRISH on the front and the gold pants have a blue stripe on the left side with a leprechaun on it.
Moreover, the helmet is gold on the top and the right side and blue on the left with a leprechaun, which seems like another team when viewing it from the side.
The South Bend Tribune reports the unveiling of the uniforms by Adidas Thursday led to extreme reactions on Twitter and fan message boards.
One person posted: “WE ARE! MD!” referring to the uniforms the Terrapins wore last year patterned after that state’s flag.
The logo is flipped around, so it’s facing the opponent.
Linebacker Manti Te’o and tight end Tyler Eifert modeled the uniforms and raved about the “swag.”
“I love them,” Te’o said. “Look good, feel good. You feel good, you play good.”
