The Denver Broncos quarterback uttered “Omaha” over 40 times in the team’s AFC Divisonal round win over the San Diego Chargers, and the Nebraska city is basking in all of the unexpected attention.

Omaha can’t thank Manning enough for all of the free advertising, and five businesses in the Nebraska city even pledged to donate $500 to Manning’s charity for every “Omaha” he yelled at the line of scrimmage against the New England Patriots.

Manning ended up raising over $24,000.

Manning has so far kept the meaning of the call a mystery, saying the play it signifies changes depending on the weather, direction of play and what jerseys the team are wearing.

The Broncos beat the New England Patriots 26-16 to secure Manning’s third trip to the Super Bowl, of which he has won one.

“I think the whole world knows how much Nebraskans love football,” Omaha Zoo Director Dennis Pate said in a press release. “It’s fun to hear such a great quarterback chanting out our largest city’s name hundreds of times per game. We get a kick out of it and are happy for Peyton and his team.”

The Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks after they beat the San Fransisco 49ers 23-17 thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown pass by Russell Wilson and some tenacious last-minute defending.

“Being in my 16th season, going to my third Super Bowl, I know how hard it is to get there,” Manning said after the game.

Manning will try to become the first quarterback to win the Super Bowl with two different teams, at the Meadowlands on Feb. 2 against Seattle. He won the title in the 2006 season while paying for the Indianapolis Colts.

The game will be played in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium, where Eli Manning’s New York Giants play their home games.

There’s no telling what the quarterback thinks of the Peyton Manning penguin, but it could be an honor for him and the Henry Doorly Zoo.

We’re sure that the Peyton Manning penguin will be watching the upcoming Super Bowl.
