Sam Hurd, a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, was arrested and charged Wednesday night under suspicion of trying to buy large amounts drugs from undercover agents. He was due in court Friday afternoon hoping be released on bail.
Federal investigators say Hurd, along with a friend in Texas, were trying to set up a drug running business based in Houston to be brought to and sold in Chicago. They say the wide receiver was trying purchase 5 to 10 kilograms of cocaine from the undercover agents.
According to the criminal complaint, Sam told the agent he was already selling four kilograms of cocaine a week. Allegedly, he told the agent that he was interested in bringing between five and 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana each week for distribution in Chicago.
Hurd is facing up to 40 years in prison on the charges against him. What could be more damaging is that a radio station, 670 ‘The Score’, is reporting that police has a laundry list of NFL player names that Sam was selling to. That could be the NFL’s worst nightmare.
Sam Hurd has hired attorney David Kenner, who previously defended rapper Snoop Dogg against a murder charge.
