Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy are not engaged, despite rumors that the Danish tennis player and Northern Irish golfer plan to get married in the spring. It was reported on Friday that 22-year-old was wearing a diamond ring as she arrived at the Brisbane International airport.
Several photographers noticed that Wozniacki was wearing the sparkle on her wedding finger as she prepared for her afternoon practice session at the Queensland Tennis Center.
However, she removed it when she took to the tennis court.
Wozniacki has denied that McIlroy, 23, proposed to her over the holidays. “It was a Christmas present, and it fit on this finger and I put it on,” she said.
“Twice we have already had to shut down engagement rumours. Don’t worry, we will let you know if that happens.”
McIlroy issued a statement through a publicist whom the engagement reports are premature.
“On behalf of Rory McIlroy, I would like to confirm that he has NOT become engaged to Caroline Wozniacki as was originally reported in Australian press,” the statement said. “Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi.”
