73000 blogs shut down by the government on Blogetery. The 73000 blogs were initially shut down by its Web hosting company about a week ago. The shut down had something to do with illegal file sharing, which is against the Web hosting’s policy.
Blogetery is a little-known WordPress platform used by more than 70,000 blogs. It was shut down by its Web hosting company more than a week ago following an order from law enforcement officials. Many people believe that it probably has something to do with illegal file sharing sites.
There internet service provider did not confirm, nor did they refute that it involved illegal file sharing, all they said was the shut down was “due to material hosted on the server”. They did state, “his was a critical matter brought to our attention by law enforcement officials.”
Recently, a group of federal law enforcement agencies seized assets and web sites belonging to people authorities say operated illegal file-sharing sites. President Obama has stated that his administration is going to get tough on piracy and counterfeiting. If this was an issue about copyrights, Blogetery would most likeyly be dealing with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s safe harbor.
