Amazon Blu-ray Sale Gets Under Way

Since the collapse of the Toshiba HD DVD format, retailers have been promoting Sony's Blu-ray DVD technology. Blu-ray offers HD 1080p video output and features Dolby Digital Plus and TrueHD audio. The player also has an Ethernet connection to download firmware upgrades online.

Amazon is now selling a Blu-ray player and DVDs for over half-price. The Samsung BD-P1500 player is priced at $184 and selected movies are 50 percent off.

Amazon.com Inc is now selling a Blu-ray player and DVDs for over half-price. The Samsung BD-P1500 player is priced at $184. Amazon also has selected DVD movies at 50 percent off.

Blu-ray BD-P1500 offers HD 1080p video output and features Dolby Digital Plus and TrueHD audio. The unit has a built-in Ethernet card to download the latest firmware upgrades over the Internet.

The Samsung BD-P1500 has a four-star customer rating based on 124 reviews.

Some of the Blu-ray titled include Mad Men Season 1, Rambo 1-3 Boxset, Total Recall, The Bank Job, Stargate, The Punisher, and others. The DVD movies start at $9.99 each.

Amazon also has a buy-2-get-1-free Blu-ray disc promotion. Sony PS3 game titles are also slashed by 20 percent.

Blu-ray is a new optical disc format with over five times the storage capacity of a standard DVD. A dual-layer disc can hold up to 50 GB of information. The increased storage allows movie studios to provide 6 times the resolution in high definition.
