Amazon Kindle 2 Ebook Reader Weighs Only 10 Ounces

Amazon Kindle 2 has a thinner design and longer battery life support for the Ebook reader. The new electronic book reader only weights 10 ounces.

Amazon.com Inc is shipping Kindle 2 with a slim design with a high resolution display. The Ebook reader is lighter than a typical paperback. It is available for $359 at the Amazon Web site.

"Kindle 2 is everything customers tell us they love about the original Kindle, only thinner, faster, crisper, with longer battery life, and capable of holding hundreds more books," Amazon.com Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.

Amazon Kindle 2 offers more than 230,000 book resources online.

Ebook readers are becoming more popular among students and people looking for international newspapers and offers more than 1,200 different blogs. It's a new way to read from direct online sources without visiting a bookstore. Moreover, Amazon features more than 230,000 books from its Kindle Store.

"While we're excited about Kindle 2, we know that great hardware is useless without vast selection. That's why the Kindle Store offers customers over 230,000 books," Bezos said.

Kindle 2 connects to a wireless network and offers a new sleek design which is just over a third of an inch thin. It weighs only 10 ounces and offers new 5-way controller to provide easier navigation. For example, Kindle users can highlight text up and down and from side to side.

The electronic reader offers 25 percent longer battery life.

Amazon Kindle 2 features a new thinner design with longer battery life providing users with four to five days on one single charge. The ebook reader has a new redesigned power charger which is lighter and more durable than its predecessor. It also comes with a new leather cover and attachment for better fitting.

Kindle 2 also comes with the new Oxford-American Dictionary which features more than 250,000 built-in word definitions. In addition, it has a built-in text-to-speech capability which converts words into spoken english. Users can configure text-to-speech for a male or female voice.
