Apple iPhone 3G Power Adapters Recalled

Apple Inc on Friday issued a recall on its ultra-compact USB adapters. Iphone 3G users reported that metal prongs broke off and remained in power outlets.

The faulty adapters create a risk of electrical shock. No injuries have been reported.

“We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported,” Apple said in a statement.

Iphone 3G users who received the tiny USB adapter with their smartphone should stop using it. Apple said mobile phone owners should use its standard USB power adapter. The standard adapter has fold-up prongs.

Customers can exchange the USB adapter for a redesigned model starting October 10. The exchange will be available without charge and in retail stores.

Apple advises that adapters with a green dot on the bottom are safe to use. Those models do not need to be replaced.
