AT&T announced that it will hire more than 5,000 workers for its Internet broadband and wireless support centers across the country. The jobs were previously outsourced by companies overseas.

AT&T Inc announced on Thursday it will hire more than 5,000 workers for its Internet broadband support and wireless centers across the country. The company plans to replace outsourced overseas contracts with regular payroll employees across the country. The plan comes amid a deepening recession.

"We expect to complete this ambitious 5,000 job in-sourcing initiative by this summer, less than three years after the program was announced," Bill Blase, senior executive vice president of Human Resources, said in a statement.

Technology jobs including Internet broadband and wireless support could very well help companies and workers during the economic recession.

Moreover, the jobs come with good wages and benefits. It is a plan to bring employees back in-house which will provide new works with high-tech jobs. Most of the jobs will be located in Internet broadband support centers in North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Kentucky.

Other jobs from AT&T will be scattered through other states in the southeast. The move is in alliance with the union partners of Communications Workers of America. The union is credited for creating competitive cost structures.

AT&T deserves credit for bringing jobs back home.

"We applaud our union partners in the Communications Workers of America who worked with us to create competitive cost structures that allow us to meet the demands of this competitive market while still providing good domestic jobs," Blase said.
