Comcast Corp. said Thursday that a hacker or hackers on Wednesday night redirected people trying to reach Comcast.net, the portal it operates for its Internet customers, to another site.
The site to which customers were redirected displayed a two-line message that read "KRYOGENIKS EBK and DEFIANT RoXed COMCAST," followed by, "sHouTz To VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven."
Comcast said late Thursday morning that it had stopped the redirection and its customers could access the Internet and e-mail through such services as Outlook, but that some of its customers weren't able to access its portal or get e-mail through the site.
Comcast became of interest to TorrentFreak readers because of an Associated Press investigation last year that found that the Philadelphia-based cable-television, phone and Internet company was delaying traffic created on its network by BitTorrent users.
Comcast and BitTorrent agreed in late March to work together to solve traffic-management issues that BitTorrent users create when they share large files including movies on Comcast's network.
Comcast said it has alerted law-enforcement officials about the hacking and is working with them to discover who did it.
