Ebay HP TouchpadEbay Hp TouchpadEbay was busy Sunday night when people tried to get the discontinued $99 HP Touchpad before time ran out on the auction. The computer tablet literally sold out in minutes once it was available to the public. The item was offered to employees of the auction website prior to going live online.

Though HP never said exactly how many of the refurbished Touchpads would be released for sale, many tried to get a $99 16 GB or $149 32GB unit that was first made available to HP employees then to the public.

The WebOS-based HP TouchPad was only available for a little more than two months before WebOS hardware operations were shut down.

The computer tablet then saw a burst of popularity when HP and retailers like Best Buy sold new units starting at $99.99.

Those quickly sold out in August.

The TouchPad demand could well have been fueled by the news that HP is making the webOS platform open-source, allowing developers and other manufacturers to step in, adopt and modify it for their own use.

Specs include a 9.7-inch multitouch (capacitive) 1024×768 display, a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core APQ8060 processor, HP WebOS, a front-facing 1.3MP camera, and internal speakers with Beats Audio.

According to the consensus, most people who use tablets still prefer the Apple iPad 2, but you can’t beat the HP one if you can get it for $99.

Here’s a video showing the comparison between the HP Touchpad vs iPad 2.
