The long-awaited Facebook app has finally come to the iPad. Other social network apps had already been available for download on the portable device such as, Twitter, Flipboard, and Gowalla. However, the company says there was a delay in order to program the "full Facebook experience" and ready to be driven by your fingertips on the touch pad.

Rumors had been surfaced that the launch of an iPad app would have been announced at the companies F8 developer conference last month and then again, at the big Apple iPhone event week. But, there was no word of the iPad app at either event.

Now, Facebook's, Leon Dubinsky makes it official via a blog entry, saying: "Many of you have been asking about Facebook for iPad. Today, it's finally here."

"With the iPad app, you get the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips. It's a fun way to keep up with friends, share photos, chat and more," writes Dubinsky.

Features include larger photos for vivid slideshows on-the-go. There's a search bar at the top of the left-hand navigation menu, and groups, lists, games and apps are also located on the left-hand menu, while notifications and messages are at the top of every screen.

The iPad app could be a boon for Apple. None of the tablets running Google's Android software have a tailor-made Facebook app. The app can be downloaded for free by going to the App store on your device.
