Loopt Inc released its full mobile social network application for the Google G1 Android phone. The new application turns G1 mobile phones into a social networking hub. The service also supports numerous wireless providers.
"From the start, our goal has been to build a ubiquitous interoperable network in which customers don't have to worry about who has what provider or mobile device," Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of Loopt, said in a statement.
Android users can view two modes of satellite maps and receive alerts from their friends. What if you were waiting on a friend for lunch and wondered why they're late? All you have to do is use Loopt to find your friend's precise location on the G1 mobile phone map.
"This focus is combined with a commitment to delivering compelling consumer location services and effective privacy standards," Altman said.
For example, the comprehensive map can also show you if your friend is caught in a traffic jam. Android mobile phone users can set up alerts for friends and share status information.
Loopt offers the ability for mobile users to share their information with popular Web services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter or personal blogs and Web sites.
Android is an open mobile operating platform developed by the Open Handset Alliance. Some of the major wireless companies supporting the alliance are Google Inc, T-Mobile, HTC, Qualcomm, and Motorola.
