Microsoft Office 2008 Update for Mac

The new Office 2008 update for Mac enhances the security of the suite. Microsoft also added a new Office Installer which no longer grants restricted users unauthorized access to the Mac program files.

The official update is marked: Mac 12.0.1.

Microsoft says the update also contains changes that improve stability and performance which also addresses the fixes needed for Mac OS X 10.5 Leapard.

The major improvements for Leapard include vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer’s memory by issuing malicious code. The problem is now corrected in the latest Office update for Mac.

The Office maker has documented a significant number of fixes in the Office 2008 suite that include Word and Excel that occasionally caused the programs to quit unexpectedly.

Performance has been improved when opening PowerPoint, and has addressed problems with Entourage data synchronization.
