Sony unveils PS3 official price drop

Sony announced plans to introduce a new PlayStation 3 40GB model beginning November 2 at a price of $399, bundled with Spider-Man 3 on the Blu-ray Disc.

Every PS3 comes with a Blu-ray drive, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine and a built-in hard-drive.

The only downfall on the new 40GB PS3 console is the backwards compatibility. The unit will no longer play PS2 game titles as the company is ending previous console compatibility. There are still over 120 million PlayStation 2 owners.

The company also announced that effective immediately, the current 80GB PS3 model will be available in North America for $499, reducing the price by $100.

The recent changes by Sony has been anticipated in the United States for almost a month now after the company confirmed in both Europe and Japan that a new cheaper 40GB PS3 Sku was on the way.

Sony will be phasing out the 60GB PS3 console.

Some of the PS3 games for the holiday season will include Ratchet & Clank, Future: Tools of Destruction, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin’s Creed, Haze and RockBand.
