The release for Mario Kart Wii has seen Nintendo’s racing title take the top spot in both the UK and Japanese charts this week, with the game’s Japanese debut totaling sales of 594,000 units.
Mario Kart outsold its Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, after just three weeks on sale, at 1,590,000 units to 1,563,000.
The rest of the top ten remains largely static, although Wii Fit has moved up three places to number four with a lifetime-to-date sale totaling in excess of 1,8500,000 units.
Japanese comedy duo Yoiko has also seen their Nintendo DS title move up two places to number six, although complete sales are low for most titles in the bottom half of the top ten.
The only new entries in the rest of the top thirty are rhythm action game Oshiri Kajiri Mushi no Rhythm Lesson DS from Sega at number eighteen and the Xbox 360 version of Turok at 29.
Wii also sold nearly 700,000 gaming consoles during the month of March. The Sony PS3 sold 365,000 units, Microsoft came in 3rd place with only 310,000 consoles.
