Toyota Highlander Hybrid Specifications
The Highlander Hybrid features a new electronic on-demand four-wheel drive system. It works in conjunction with the dashboard instrument panel. The panel provides indicators to monitor the vehicle's energy level to coach the driver to better fuel efficiency. This feedback system also works with Toyota's EV mode switch.
To help the driver achieve better mileage, the instrument panel will make suggestions on when to use the EV Mode switch. This switch is located on the front center console. When activated, the Hybrid vehicle will operate in electric-mode to reduce fuel consumption. The vehicle will run on a limited distance under this mode at slow speeds or when in traffic.
Toyota Highlander is equipped with a 3.3-liter double overhead cam gasoline engine. This V6 engine will deliver 208 horsepower. The maximum torque is 247 lb.-ft. when combined with the electric drive motor.
In addition to the EV Mode, there's also a new ECON drive mode switch. This switch will activate a throttle control feature that smoothes out the throttle response. This feature enhances fuel efficiency because it will limit excessive acceleration. There is also a Hybrid System Indicator located on the instrument panel to help the driver conserve fuel.
The Hybrid System Indicator consists of two automatic mode that include "normal" and "acceleration." The "normal mode" reveals three white LED dashes, located on the outer edge of the power meter, when driving at slower speeds. Keeping the power meter needle within the three white dashes allows the driver to maintain a constant speed and acceleration level that helps achieve the maximum fuel economy.
For example, as the driver increase's acceleration, the Hybrid System Indicator automatically switches to "acceleration mode." The "acceleration mode" encourages the driver to keep the power meter needle within five white dashes. The Toyota Highlander indicators are very easy to follow and will save you gas money.
The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is equipped with one of the highest levels of standard safety features in the small and mid-SUV segments. With a segment-leading total of seven airbags providing the most inclusive coverage ever equipped in a Toyota vehicle. These include advanced driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and a driver's knee airbag.
