Atlanta Tornado hit downtown Friday night causing 27 injuries and damage to Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, the CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado, with winds soaring 130 mph, struck downtown Atlanta about 9:40 PM.The Atlanta tornado injured 27 people Friday night, though no injuries were believed to be life-threatening. Officials say the twister was likely an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF Scale) with winds between 111 to 135 mph. It was on the ground for about 6 miles. Crews hauled broken glass and furniture out of downtown streets Saturday and homeowners surveyed damage caused by the tornado that caught residents and basketball fans by surprise. Streets around the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, the CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park were littered with broken glass, downed power lines, crumbled bricks, insulation and even the occasional office chair. Billboards collapsed onto parked cars. Stunned fans from the arenas and hotel guests wandered through the debris in disbelief. More severe thunderstorms are predicted for the Atlanta area.
